Strahm Sells!: April 2010

Pink Snow!

It's that special time if year - and we only get to enjoy it for a day or two.  The combination of passing days, cool temperatures and gusty winds have made the local cherry trees lose their petals en masse.  So the areas beneath the trees look as if they are covered in pink snow!

Cherry Blossom Snow

Our local cherry trees pale in comparison to those that grace Sakura Park in Manhattan and the one that line the rim of the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C.   Japan gave 3,020 cherry blossom trees as a gift to the United States in 1912 to celebrate the nations' then-growing friendship.   Sakura is the Japanese word for flowering cherry blossom.

So, farewell Sakura!  See you again next year!

Rest In Peace, Expired Listing

Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree.

Just when I think I've seen it all during a showing! First, a little back story. I have a listing where the owner is a neighbor of mine. And because of circumstances that need not be explained, she has five dogs in her home. Five boisterous… more
Signs, signs, everywhere there's signs
I have read a few blogs in the past about real estate signs. And know from the maelstrom of comments that the last thing I want to do is post a picture of a damaged or embarrassing looking real estate sign (people can get so touchy! ). But lord… more
Arrivederci world’s ugliest bathroom!
I'm bidding a fond farewell to the world's ugliest bathroom. You may not agree it's the ugliest, but I sure feel that way because it's mine. Yes, I was the proud owner of this hideous bathroom. Not that I put it in! It was here when… more
Pet Peeve Tuesday!
Okay. I've got to get this off my chest. Why don't all agents play by the rules? Re-read that sentence. Could I possibly sound more naive?!? Today's rule that is often broken is not a major one, but one I find annoying. Agents who input… more
I'm not a bigot, but
There are some of us in this industry that tend to prejudge prospective clients. I hear comments like, "I hate dealing with <choose a group of people>. Those deals never work out. " Or, "<Choose a group of people> will… more
Bless me, Father, for I have
This has been a long and busy week, and a long and busy Saturday. Not that I'm complaining! But it certainly does make my day when I get an unexpected chuckle. As seen on a MLS listing, this home has a special feature. a "sinroom… more
The year is 1968 an the First Lady of Country Music, Tammy Wynette, is on top of the charts with her number one hit single D-I-V-O-R-C-E (ironically, she also hit #1 that same year with Stand By Your Man ). Great times, great music. But we're… more
