Strahm Sells!: The First Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival

The First Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival

Saturday July 10th was a landmark day for Lansdale, PA - the first (of hopefully many!) Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival.  With proceeds going to the Lansdale Farmer's Market, and local food pantry Manna on Main Street, this was a fun event with heart.

Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival

I'd never been to a beer tasting festival before, so was not too sure what to expect for my $35 entrance fee.  What I got was a fun afternoon of amazing hand-crafted beers, great food from local vendors and Amazing music from Great Big House.

A huge crowd of all ages mingled under the humongous tent enjoying the food, music and beer.

Lansdale Beer Tasting FestivalThe breweries represented included Anchor Brewing, Bear Republic, Fegley's Brew Works, Flying Fish Brewery, Founder's, Great Lakes, Hometown, Lagunitas, Lancaster Brewing Company, Latis (Palm), Long Trail Brewery, Magic Hat, Manayunk Brewing, Ommegang, Otter Creek Brewing, Philadelphia, Prism Beer, Red Hook, Riverhorse, Sly Fox, Southampton, Steenbrugge, Troegs, Victory, Weyerbacher, Widmer Brothers Brewing Company, and Yards Brewing.  A great mix of local and regional companies.

The food showcased local eateries Smoke Daddies and Not Just Sandwiches, and was the perfect accompaniment to the fine beers and ales.

Not just a reason to drink beer on a fine summer afternoon, the Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival is committed to help grow our fine community into a vibrant Montgomery County destination.  Taken from their website is the mission statement of the festival:

The Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival Committee is a locally organized, locally driven group of Lansdale, PA citizens who recognize the need for local residents to take ownership and responsibility for the financial well being and health of local charities, who give so much to our community in which we live. Through large and small events involving the tasting, education and enjoyment of beer-often paired with food and/or entertainment-our primary goal is to raise money for these Lansdale non-profit organizations. All proceeds of these events will be funneled back to deserving local charities. Our secondary goal is to provide as many adults as possible with a tasting experience that will lead to a greater exposure to and appreciation of the different varieties of beer (malts, ales, lagers, stouts, etc.), with special emphasis on locally brewed beers.
The Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival (LBTF) is committed to:

· Support local Lansdale Charities with fundraising activities and work to gain greater awareness for their causes.

· Provide events centered around tasting and enjoying the varieties of craft beers-especially regionally brewed ones-as well as the pairing of foods and the inclusion of entertainment

· Work in conjunction with the Lansdale Borough Administration and local Business Community to utilize the event to drive people to the downtown district as part of overall revitalization efforts.

• Provide residents and guests of the greater North Penn region with an event that will increase quality of life and recreational enjoyment for the adult community.

Lansdale Beer Tasting FestivalA special thanks goes to the chairman of the Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival, Drew Stockmal.  He and his committee members (Michael Panachyda, Michael Parzynski, Andrew Szekely, Steve Malagari, Christine Stockmal, Bruce Kearney, Robert Lamb, Chris Staub, Robert Hyde, Tom Meyer and Tom Allenbachput) on a truly fantastic event.  I can't wait for next year's festival!

Looks like fun. I like the idea of a little cup of beer to go with a little bite to eat....although I'm sure I'd end up wanting more than just one pairing. I can't think of what beer goes with a cupcake, though, but that truck sure is cute!

Leslie - There was a blueberry ale at one of the booths (sounds kind of gross, but it was one of the best ones I tasted!).  That might have gone with the cupcakes!

There was also a beer made with beets.  Yes, it was red.  Not my favorite, but it sure was interesting!

Wish I could have been there. Sounds like a blast. An ice cold beer on a summer you're talking.

Richard, I've never been to a beer tasting either but the crowd looked like October Fest!
